will anyone else jump off the ls wagon with me

LSCustoms the bang for the buck power does not end at the engine nor is it everything to consider with regards to a swap. (as I am sure you already know) In a swap the cost and ease or work involved in getting it in their and the builders skills and familiarness with it and working with the trans and everything else comes into play. GBODYLS3 states his is a money pit. Most of his goals proabably could have been accomplished another way cheaper and easier with an older powerplant so yes & no with regards to the bang for the buck thing with regards to the ls motors in a Gbody. That said a 4.8 with twins sounds fun. 🙂

As far as some of you who like to see different between the frame rails check out my photos. Surprising almost anything is on the shelf at the local parts stores belts water pumps plugs etc. power tour no worries. Plus amid the sea of belly button sbcs in everything at every car show and cruise in I have yet to see another 500 Caddy in a gbody. Not that they are not out there but far and few between. Stone reliable streetable 500HP 600TQ on pump premium is do able for far less the you can buy a 502 502 full crate although no warranty and some work and time required.

The whole reason I chose to put the 330 in my Olds was to be different, and brand loyal. Would a 350, 403, 425 or 455 have more power? Yes. But at the time, I hadn't seen anyone putting a 330 in a non 60s Olds....(and no, it isn't in yet....but soon...oh so soon)..if I had to do over again, I would still build it, just done a few things different. I, too, cringe at seeing a SBC, or LSx in everything, but they do have their merits....but I don't want one for my Olds.

That's the same reason I went with a big block Buick. I know there are a bunch of them here but I've not seen another in person. Years back, I wanted to do a Pontiac 455/Grand Prix (as I'm really a Poncho guy) but the Regal came up along with the engine for a great price....free. couldn't pass it up. I personally like to see a Pontiac engine in a Pontiac etc. LS engines are a great design but are sooooo generic just like most of today's cars.

Just my 2 cents worth.

::END OF RANT::

I'm pullin out the sbc in my cutlass to put in a olds 350. Too many have sbc in them. SBO in a cutlass isnt that different either, but its what I want. I did consider a ls swap but decided to put an olds in it. LS engines are generic, but I do see the benefits as far as parts etc.

I think I need to go to some car shows that you are all going to! Every cruise night I hit up during the warmer season 90% of the time I'm the only LS swapped car there. It always grabs looks no matter where it goes even with the rough paint and S10 wheels on it. The swap is not a cheap one. You'll either spend a little money and a lot of time, a lot of money and a little time, or a combination of both. Depends on your skill and budget whether or not your swap will be successful or not.

That being said, I'll keep on the bus these engines are way too fun to be outed based on their technology and far limits compared to older engines. I can't wait for my next swap, I have most of the parts needed and I'm really thinking a turbo Buick would be the next canidate

LSx engines are anything but generic  If any engine on here would be considered "generic" it would be a generation I SBC. How is an aluminum block 6 bolt main aluminum headed engine that has been pushed over 1000hp with stock internals, generic :?:
:blam:
Y'all might not like them ... or get tired of hearing about them (for whatever reason) ... fact is, there is not an engine out there that responds to upgrades like an LSx engine :!:

I would probably venture out to say that people that have "hatred" for an LSx engine, is jealous of them, wants one, but probably can't afford to do it  Just my 2 cents there. I don't have an LSx engine setup in anything (because I can't afford it) but if it were up to me, I would put one in every car I owned

First i understand. Drivavbility, injuction, aftermarket support ,turbos. I am not hating but their in everything now. I remember a few years ago when th 502 crate motor came out and every chevelle at a car show had one. I get hot rod and popular hot rodding and half the magazine if ls related.

What's injuction again? Oh, and you're forgetting fuel efficiency.

So what if they're in everything? Half of Hot Rod and Popular Hot Rodding is "LS" related because it's what the readership demands.

Its like they dont make any other engines anymore. Stick an olds 455 in it get a carb type self learning fuel injection. Theres something to be said for being different and being brand loyal.

Uhhh... well... I'm no expert, but excepting crate engines... AFAIK they(GM) don't make any other (Gas V8) engines anymore.
****SPOILER ALERT****
Oldsmobile and Pontiac no longer exist. Just to fill you in on the last 10 years or so.
****SPOILER ALERT****

So instead of an LS engine... you suggest people get a 455 and add aftermarket parts to it... Ok... Why? How is this inherently better?
There's something to be said for being different and being brand loyal? Really? What's that?
BTW: GM wasn't even brand loyal in itself.
From the factory:
Oldsmobile Cutlasses with SBCs
Buick Roadmasters with Olds 307s
GMC trucks with SBCs! OMG!

That's only naming a few.

Remember, G bodies were mass-produced, so maybe we should all just jump off the G body wagon.
Since... y'know... everyone has them. And stuff.

Same idea.

Anyways, thanks for the laugh. You purists always give me quite the thrill. The idea of hotrodding is to PUT anything you want IN anything and make it DO anything within the realm of physics. Deal with it.
