will anyone else jump off the ls wagon with me

People have tried to get me to "drop a 5.3 into my car" before, but I just can't bring myself to have anything other than an Olds under my hood. I am happy with my Olds 350. If I ever do a swap, it will be to a Big Block Olds. I'm just a really big fan of Oldsmobile. I have a 5.3 in my truck and I love it. But thats my truck. My truck has a completely different feel than my 80's model car.

Nullshine, are you truely that ignorant that you really don't understand why others don't feel the need to have the latest and greatest engine in their older cars? Is that what cars are ALL about? Having the latest and greatest mill in their cars? I don't think so. But I can tell by the tone of your posts, you seem to have it all figured out and everybody else is wrong, so there's really no point in trying to help you understand why others don't feel like that.

P.S. Does anyone else notice how it seems that the die hard LS guys think they're superior to those with older engines as if they themselves have anything to do with the performance capabilities with the engine? It's like 'Ha, your cars are all slow! My stock LS engine and I can run circles around your older modified car! That means I'm better than you!'. Don't understand where their big egos come from.

The above quote is the post of either a troll, or an ignoramus.

Where do I make any ignorant comments in my initial post? There are none.
Read my post again. I fully support being an individual and doing what you want.

My comments are designed to get the OP to think about his true motives for wanting to have a 455 and to get him to think about the motives of others, and why they want Gen III/IV engines.

There are exactly ZERO tangible inherent benefits to having a "brand matching" or "period correct" engine in your car. Unless it's an investment car and that engine is matching numbers. The only "benefit" is in the mind of the owner. If that's the reason for having said engine, then fine. But don't try to tell me, or anyone else that being brand loyal or period correct is somehow "better", or that there's "something to be said" for being brand loyal or period correct.

Couldn't agree more.

Let's get something straight here pal, I didn't state being a 'brand loyalist' was 'better'. I simply stated I think it's pretty silly if someone ( you in this case ) can't even understand WHY someone would prefer to be a 'brand loyalist'. I certainly can understand WHY someone wouldn't want to be a 'brand loyalist' ( whether I agree with them or not isn't relevent ), but YOU can't in any way even understand why others prefer being a 'brand loyalist'? That is why I called you ignorant.

IMO, your original post came off pretty insulting/confrontaional to those who don't feel the same way you do.

come on guys, settle down now, this is a site for exchanging ideas and info and opinions, not harsh werds. some people think that throwing a ls inna gbody or any other gm car, and heck even some non gm cars is good. some people like to keep chevys in chevys and olds in olds and pontys in pontys. some like to put chevys in there bop cars because of oppertunity or because thats what they know or what they got to werk with. i do agree that keeping period correct engines in our cars is ideal, but thats not to say imma stop someone from putting an ls6 into there cutty wagon. some times olds school is awesome, like the guy whos got that bad *ss bu with the bbc in it that looks like it came from the factory( :notworthy: ) but i also think that the guy with the ls motor in his clean *ss monty is fan-****ing-tastic. there all nice, yes fuel injection is awesome and i want it, but right now i got other things in my way, like geting the damn brake lights to work and figure out the birds nest under the dash. if ya got the funds and time, great, if not well thats ok too. lets all have a beer, and chill out a lil here. :friday:

ROFL
ROFL
ROFL some more.

It doesn't matter who calls who ignorant, because you truly are. Read the thread again. And again. And however many more times it takes you to get it through your thick skull. Where do I ever express the idea that I can't understand why someone would want to be a brand loyalist? I do know why people are brand loyalists, and none of the reasons have anything to do with tangible benefits. They have everything to do with getting a warm fuzzy over having a "matching set" or some type of nostalgia, or some feeling that you're doing something different than the others. If that's what you want, GO BALLS DEEP.

If that's your Kool-Aid, drink it. But the OP suggests that the quantity of Gen III/IV reading material, and cars with said engines in them, is somehow a problem for him. He's complaining about the "popular kids", which is something that someone who actually thrives on finding different solutions to fit their unique needs, would never do.

I don't give a crap if, in your opinion, my post came off confrontational. Your delicate sensibilities are of no consequence to me. Yes, I took some jabs at the OP. He deserved it. When you say things like "It's like they don't make any other engines anymore." What do you expect? No more SBCs are showing up in the junkyards. No more Oldsmobile tall decks are showing up in the junkyards. This means less people are going to be having them in their cars. This combined with all the REAL, TANGIBLE benefits of the Gen III/IV platform make people want to put them in their cars. This in turn, drives magazine readership.

So what? Pull up a rocking chair on your porch and mutter something about "kids these days".

Or how about "Theres something to be said for being different and being brand loyal."
Really. What is that something? Nothing consequential. Think about it. The OPs post is completely inconsequential.

It amounts to whining, at best, and the suggestion that others should "protest" along with him.

And really what my posts amount to, is the suggestion for him to suck it up, put on his big-girl panties, and friggin' deal with the reality that Gen III/IV engines are popular, and it's gonna be a while until something else takes their place. And I'd bet he'll whine when that happens too, cause he just got into Gen III/IVs!

wow sorry i ever started this post. i think most have missed my original thought. every one is right on either side. i am car show/drag strip/and drive it guy. its all about whats important to you.
