windshield question

Here's what I'm up against. The glass folks just called to tell me they found out that the windshield with the antenna will not fit my wagon. My car does have the fender mounted antenna. I'm beginning to question their knowledge about windows for this car. So I'm told the 4 door sedan and the wagon use the same glass, but now what about the antenna? Will a windshield with the antenna fit a wagon that uses a fender mounted antenna? Can't believe it's this complicated to replace a windshield. Thanks for all the info.

Ed,
If you would like to go with an antenna equipped windshield and your car currently has the fender mounted mast, you'll need the connector that fits onto the cowl with the antenna cable attached. You'll also have to drill out where the connector goes. The area should have telltale
indentations or indicators where to drill.
It should be no biggie once you find the parts that you need.
Is there any other glass dealers in your area you can consult with?

It shouldn't be complicated. A windshield with the antenna built in should fit a wagon with a fender mounted antenna. The only difference is the lack of having a connector on the cowl coming from the windshield to your radio.

Here is windshield info

DW00890CLN is clear, no antenna

DW00890GBN is tinted, no antenna

DW00889CLN is clear, w/antenna

DW00889GBN is tinted, w/antenna

Hope this helps someone out

Any of these will physically fit the OPs car. As Jack said, there is no antenna connector at the base of the windshield on the OE fender-mount antenna cars

You could put in a windshield with the integral antenna and just not use it (keep using the fender mounted antenna) but it would look a little strange having both antennas on the car. You could also convert to the windshield antenna as described above but then you have to do something about the hole in the fender where the fixed mast antenna was. You should be able to get a windshield without the antenna either with or without the tinted 'eyebrow' at the top. It should be readily available.

Brian,
Thanks for listing the pertinent part #'s for the various wagon/ sedan windshields. It certainly takes the guesswork out of the equation.
BTW, this is the actual # of my windshield DW00889GBN

Jared,
You're absolutely right. He can just as well have the windshield with the integral antenna installed and have the option to use it or not.

Don't use safelite. I have a good friend in the auto glass industry, and he has told me if it weren't for safelite, he'd go out of business. Almost half of his jobs are repairing safelite's poor quality glass and sub-par installations. The adhesive safelite uses is a 1k primerless adhesive which is impossible to achieve a good bond out of. The frame has to be primered before a 2k adhesive can be used to install the glass or nothing will stick. 1k adhesives don't work well on glass because there is no chemical reaction occurring that allows the adhesive to etch into the glass. My new daily driver came with a Safelite windshield in it that is less than a year old and it is delaminating from the frame and cracked. I have to have a new one put in before inspection.
