I used this:

I find the butyl tape easier and less messy to use.

Looking back in retrospect, I probably should have bought the HD caulking gun and installed it myself. Maybe then my trim wouldn't have blown off. I'm still pissed about that. I even removed my old windshield, cleaned the channel, painted it, provided the clips, etc. I guess you can say I made it easy for them.
That's the thanks I get...

When I installed the windshield in my old 914, I used butyl tape...and some urethane caulk. It came out nicely. It definitely was less messy to use....except for some of the urethane I used.

And these Roloc bristle discs are the best thing since sliced bread for cleaning a window channel. Takes out paint and rust increadibly easy. Just remove any gooey stuff with solvent first.

Then brush on 2 coats of epoxy primer, let it cure overnight and install the windshield.

I painted the pinch weld with POR 15, I modified the pinch weld and have my windshield sitting almost flush with the body so I use a bit more urethane than normal and then I fill in the small gap around the window with the urethane. Nice thing about urethane it does not shrink when drying. The way I do it really helps when I hit over 200 mph.....😊
