1983 BUICK REGAL WITH 4.1 F/I CAR.

Basicly, the wipers will not turn off. When I purchased it the previouse owner had a switch that turned off the power to the wiper motor. After some testing I thought that I had a bad connection at the wiper motor. I repaired it and then I removed the switch that was added. 3 months later the wipers are doing it again. Checked the connection again, all good.

The only way to stop them is to turn off the wiper switch and turn the car off and on. When turning the vehicle back on the wipers park and stop until you turn the wiper switch again.

I dont have a problem buying a motor assm with all new. But, I want to make sure that the wiper switch in the column is good.

If the wiper switch is off and the wiper motor is still getting power then it looks to me like the switch is defective. If you unplug the harness for the wires to the wiper switch do the wipers stop?

I would check to make sure the ground is hooked up . Try using a jumper wire with a alligator clips on both sides. Clip one side to the wiper motor motor(clean a spot down to metal) and the other side clip to a good clean chassis ground or the negative side of the battery. On one of my Gbodys the windshield wiper squirter would squirt the windshield when the wipers where on and it turned out to be the ground at the bottom of the wiper motor.

You really need a factory manual to read through the fairly complex diagnosis. It could be the park relay, the parking pawl, the pawl spring, internal wiring. Lacking that, I think swapping in a known good motor/washer assembly is the best course of action.
