I just bought a 1985 Elcamino that has no motor, when they removed the old one they cut a bundle of wires that runs down from the top of the passenger wheel well. I'm not sure where it goes and it's about 15 all diffent colored wires, it disappears into the dash? near the passenger door somewhere. Does anyone know what they are for and why they would just snip a big bundle of wires??

I took the brittle plastic wire tube off so I can see what color they are

To switch to a non-computer controlled carb.

Wheres the computer, should I remove it?

ECU was in the passenger kick panel on the cutty. Should be in the same for all g bodys, i'm not positive though. Removing it would have to be your choice. But if you never plan on running the stock dist and carb then yank it out, some wires might be HVAC though. haynes, chilton, or maliburacing.com should have diagrams.

I'm going to find the ecu and remove the wiring belonging to it, that will solve some of the unknown wire issues I'm having. Thanks

What kind of issues are you having?

I generally don't know what I'm doing, this is a new hobby and it's quite confusing. The issue I'm having is what on earth are all these wires for.. the schematics I don't really understand so I need to learn general wiring

I'm trying to find a thread with pictures of the wires so I will know where they go.

alll the wires on that side are for SMOG controls and some ac wires.. if u dont plan on using either you can jus take them out

+1

also finding pics of the actual wires is going to be impossible just because of its nature. The diagrams are usually good. tell you what color and where it goes to.

for me wiring is challenging and fun. It takes a lot of patiences.

stick with it and youll get threw it. alot of us on here have alot of knowledge and when you hit a road block we are always here to help.

what are your plans for the car? The basic wiring for the car is very simple. Im down to a relay panel, headlights and tail lights and gauges. Thats basically all my wiring in the car.

I want just the basics too, although I may want to resurect the ac, this car is going to be a summer car. I'm taking the motor out of my 80 malibu which turned into a nightmare with rust. I have all the parts on my 80 that I need to put this on the road except for a few lights.

It's a NC car and underneath it has no rot just some light surface rust so I'm pretty pumped.

I,ve stripped the interior out because the carpet was wet and had some rust holes in the floorboards, this is minor I dont think it needs pans just patches
