Hello everyone,

I'm fairly new to this forum so first off "hello".
I have been mostly lurking and trying to gather information while I am assembling my car.

One of the areas I seem to be confused is with seats. There is a lot of information but much of it is contradictory and I am left unsatisfied with my search results.
Could anyone with real seat knowledge help me by clarifying a few things? Please, only people with first hand knowledge. I am trying to weed out the "i heard you can..." and "a friend of mine..." type answers.

Are all G-body seats interchangeable? (front, back, rails, etc?)

If a car came with a bench seat do you only need rails for buckets to put buckets in or does the floor of the car need to be modified as well to attach the rails?

Are the seat rails and how they bolt to the car the same for a split bench and for buckets?

Do seat rails from other cars bolt in without modifications? if yes, which cars?

What seats fit with no modifications from non G-body cars? Both Front and Back seats please. If I change out one seat, I need to change them all so they match.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Jeff

My 78 El Camino had a 50/50 split bench with power on the drivers side.
I replaced that with buckets & console and shifter from a 84 Monte Carlo.
I had to modify nothing but the steering column,to eliminate the shift handle.and add one rear mounting bracket for the console.

Looks good TC thanks for the reply and the picture.

Right now I have a bench seat in my car. I don't mind the bench but I would prefer a 60/40 split as I am 6'4" and a split bench would still let someone sit in the back seat behind the passenger.

If i decide it is too much work or too much money the bench will stay but one in nicer shape. I don't think anyone other than my kids will ever be in the back and the oldest one just turned 3.

Sorry one more thing TC.
Nice steering wheel too!!!

I do not have first hand knowledge...yet. I will be doing this soon myself. I am 100% positive that if you have a bench seat, you need mounting brackets. Bucket seats and 60/40 seats mount the same, they have inner mount brackets. Bench seat only has outside mounting brackets.

if its a bench you will need the tracks for the seat installing . 60 40 brackets will work with buckets but place seat to close to the door .

If want buckets get the tracks with them . I dont know about mounts that r weled to floor tho someone will chime in

you definatly need the brackets i put some seats from a 96 cutlass in mine and they sit about 4-5 inches lower than the stock seat but im pretty tall so i kinda like it just my 2 cents

Thanks for the info everyone.

So, it is best to stay with 60/40 tracks with 60/40 seats and bucket tracks with bucket seats.

Still not sure about the floor, if brackets need to be installed for 60/40 or bucket seat tracks.

If I need to weld in brackets I will stick with my bench. Does anyone know what cars have nice bench seats that will fit? G-Body or other?

Sorry CutlassJesse, I read your post too quickly.

You say I would definitely need brackets fastened between the floor and tracks to swap in either buckets or 60/40 seating?

i think you need brackets for the 60/40 if i remember right the benches only have seat mounts on the 4 corners i may be wrong been a while since i saw under a bench
