Purchased what was thought to be a Pontiac 301(emissin label stated it was). The yard pulled it and come to find out someone stuck ina 350!
I have some questions, as I am new to the Pontiac seen.
1. I had them pull the motor perches just to find out that they are the Olds 307 ones. The car was a 78 Bonnieville. Are they the same as the 301 Pontiac perchers?
2. I was wondering if there are any good pontiac sites were I can get some much needed help on freshening up this engine and converting the v-6 to the v-8. I've done it with the Buick 231 and an Olds 455, but the Safari has the Chevy 229.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Man, I wish I could help you. This sounds like an awesome project! 8)

Great!!another Pontiac engine install!!!!
I can`t answer about the olds perches bu tnormally you need the ones from a 301 gbody. That being said, if the mounts help it place in the bonneville, there is no reason for it not to work in your Lemans. Get the frame and engine mounts and re-use them.

As for Good Pontiac sites, High Performance Pontiac magasine and Performance years Pontiac parts both have decent forums devoted to Pontiacs and you should find what you need. Let`s not forget all the Poncho experts right here.

Good luck and keep us posted

A Pontiac 350 is a good score! You can do plenty with one of those. Are you sure it's a '68? They had a bit high compression, but check the numbers and post so we can identify it. Look by the distributor hole for a 2 digit year casting. Look on the side of the block for the displacement casting, and while there, see how many engine mounting holes there are. Look at the top of the passenger side front deck right below the head for the code letters. Go here for lots of good info and identification help.http://www.wallaceracing.com/index.html

Those perches are for '70 and up blocks with 5 or 3 holes. A '68 has only 2. But I can't find a YE anywhere except for a '71-'72 455?!?!? Yet, G198 casting date would be July 19 of '58, '68, 'or '78. This is not adding up. http://pontiacformula.free.fr/en/codes_moteurs2.php

The nice thing is that the frame pads are dirt cheap.....$3.61 a piece from Rock Auto, Anchor #2387. I knew I'd find Bonnewagon and Dean in this thread!
