68 Pontiac 350 for the Safari

If he says it's a '68 and the G198 is right, I'd be looking at the mount bosses on the block next. Pre '70 won't have 5 holes. I'd be double checking that YE code again. Wouldn't it be crazy if he lucked out and got a 455?!!!
 
Waller Racing says a '68 with the YE code is a 340hp 400. Check the engine casting number. #9790071 is a 400.
 
Ok, went out in the dark. How about a YE? It looks like there's a 69 cast by the distributor.
So, Do I now have a 69 400?

I apologize, but I'm a newbie to the Pontiac way of life.
 
OK, that's a great list. I think you need to investigate a bit more.

Looks like YE is a '69 350. The casting date would support a summer of '68 production run for the '69 model year. WHEW!!
