Jack, for the stud welder, a tip is available to weld the rivets right on. They are available from Eastwood, among many other sources. They look just like factory.

I didn't know those were available, Jim.
Definitely a better alternative than the screws. Less concerns about it rusting underneath. I like that idea much better.

Revisting again, I got my stud welder. JAck, you PMed me the measurements and I re-read this thread and they in in there. I also seen a few pics which is nice. I'll be welding the studs on.
