Greetings LilBowTie & all; I'm taking a our conversation public if that's Ok as we really didn't talk about any thing that required a PM? Awesome another survivor! We really didn't cover the Bronze Brick much in our previous conversations. But I'm some what familiar with the 400 SB Chevy as I'm on my 3rd one with a spare in the corner. Bang for the buck their hard to beat. After building two with cheep parts I didn't want to build a 4th. So the only Chevy part in the 3rd one is the block! First one was back in 85, second one 95 & the 3rd one built in 04 is still Running well after an upper end re-fresh back in 2014. The one thing I've learned is they make enough power to hurt them self's. Some where around 450 lbs Ft of torquer you will break a GM main cap, doesn't matter if it is four bolt or two bolt. It will crack into the nearest bolt hole to the crank. So Mag the GM caps or just bite the bullet & get some Eagle 4 bolt Splayed tool steel caps. Main problem solved for ever. But then if you run 12 to 1 compression you will find the next week point. And don't forget some serious rods, ya sure don't want one to brake after spending all that money machining the block? If I do ever build another 406"er I would turn the rod journals down to the earlier 1967 2.0" diameter. Reducing the weight & parabolic losses uncured by the larger 2.10" rods that are now the norm. Take care Ole' Bob.
