Already have plates for it and bought from the original owner. Was looking for spring and shock suggestions.Don't know how the legitimacy of the car came into play because someone thinks its not an 81'.

I can't provide much guidance on how to make it launch or hook up if that is what you are trying to accomplish. KYB gas-adjust are pretty popular on here for a budget friendly shock. What stance are you looking for? The Moog 5660's are much firmer for the front and should provide negligible drop relative to new stock springs. I believe each 1/4 coil removed will drop the front 1". The stock F41 springs might be a good choice all around. If you want the back up some for the meats, then consider A-body springs. You can run F body isolators in the rear and then you can trim the rear springs to dial in the desired stance. Have you seen the page I link below? It takes a little study but is a wealth of info. The Moog springs are budget friendly.

We are just trying to help.

I don't know why the legitimacy came into play.

Probably because you said it was from the original owner that "knows nothing" about cars but yet the car has a non 81 nose, mirrors and probably tail lights that look like they all match the paint perfectly.

And that the cowl tag is missing which that in itself could be a felony if it contains any of the VIN info on it. It is here in NY.

Like I said I don't know.

Just trying to help and not questioning what you know or what you were told about the car.

I will tell you this.

The state will allow you to register it, plates and all

About a year down the road it may or may not throw up a red flag.

If it does throw a red flag then it gets forwarded to the State Police

A year or so after that when you go to re register it they wont let you tell you you have to bring it to a State Police Inspection Station or the State Police will be at your house with a tow truck and shinny bracelets.

Did 81's come with that header panel and mirrors?

The 350 I bought for it came from someone that knows nothing about cars...your not following the thread very closely .Michigan could care less about a cowl tag.Vin plate is all that matters.Have had several title checks by police on out of state car purchases and they have never popped the hood or trunk. The car has about 4 different colors on it.Soon it will be 1.

The header panel is from a 87'-88' model and the Cutlass did not come with aero mirrors for any years, my guess is that someone in the past wanted to give it a more modern look and did the work to convert it. The mirrors are in the correct spot so they would have had to weld shut the old holes and mount the mirrors forward.
I think this is a sweet Cutlass, I love the color and the more modern look.
