Hey I'm getting ready to paint my El Camino and I'm trying to see if anyone has any recommendations on single stage black I really like the ppg dcc 9300 but it has been discontinued and the only source I found for it wants 489 for a gallon and I want a truly deep black

ask your supplier for a single stage factory pack black color. In all honsety there are only like 4 different black paints that dont have metallic in them.

I used Nason synthetic enamel for years with Nason Qwik-cure hardener. Works great. I think you can still get the black. It's about $90 a gallon. Finishmaster sells it. Polishes out like the best base coat clear coat.

If you can't get the synthetic enamel, acrylic urethane is pretty similar, and not too much more expensive. I quit PPG years ago because it's just plain overpriced. By the way, I painted my GN 15 years ago with nason synthetic enamel, and took that photo yesterday. 😉

PPG 9000, 9300, 9700 all are true black-no additional tint hues added. I'm not up to date with what PPG has been doing with each system. But to be honest any supplier that mixes Concept DCC can mix it up, all it is is black tint & clear binder. Other PPG lines would be Omni MTK & Shop LIne that would be cheaper but still a good quality single stage. In my opinion I like lacquer (PPG DDL) but that stuff is not as liked today.

Check Eastwood and Summit for inexpensive black single stage poly. I've used Eastwoods on 2 previous projects with really good results. I'll be painting my El Camino black next year and figuring on a 2 stage from them. My car is sitting with 2 coats of they're epoxy primer and 3 coats of they're poly primer. Before paint I seal the project with the epoxy primer thinned 10 percent, incase theres any final sandthru

My supplier's discontinued dcc line also,i miss it but i use shopline 8555 in place of the 9700 concept without reducer.

Very nice GN, your paint looks like 2 stage to me. I agree with the Nason brand. I used Nason Urethane Black on my Cutlass, I believe it was 400-01 in the mid 90s. Layed down pretty easy and buffed out to a deep gloss. Not sure if they even make it anymore but it’s a good quality durable paint for the price. Paint still looked good when I repainted the car this year with DBC 9700.
