This is my thread...had a few people over this weekend and they said I should cut the bottom of the spring...I'm pretty sure I should cut the top...?????

You want to cut the bottom, it isn't flattened out like the top is.

Yes, cut off the bottom. Put a pair of Vise-Grips or 2 on the spring side of the cut to act like a heat sink. The last thing you want to do is heat it up. Use a cutoff wheel and work quickly.
