World Products used to be about 3 miles from me but they moved, my current 565 block is a World casting and I also live a mile from the GM Tech Center.
Anyhow,I'm hoping that the bad intake gasket is the cause of the problems I have been experiencing,smoking, burning oil and hard to start.
I did go and see our local Big Block Guru John Armstrong yesterday,showed him the pictures I had and he felt that this was indeed the issue.
I told him that I was very careful pulling the intake off and that I didn't think that I ripped the gasket like I found it.
John said that I likely didn't rip it in taking the intake off and if it were him he would put new gaskets on and see if that fixes it.
I am hoping for an easy fix as I really don't want to pull the engine.

I have had those same AFR intake gaskets on my 335 heads for a decade without issues and I have new ones for my AFR 357's waiting to be installed on the new engine.
I got the bad gasket off of the head today and it was ripped,wrinkled and also appeared to be coming apart,or de-laminating.
Not sure what could have caused this,the Monte worked good up until last Sept.The only change was switching to a synthetic blend oil from regular oil,both oils were 10W30.
I put the 513 together in 2015,so I'm thinking that there was nothing wrong with the gaskets for most of that time.

Your gaskets are in pretty rough shape, were any intake bolts loose?
And is that a stud on the end?

Intake bolts were all tight,I made sure to snug them up a couple of times and always kept an eye on them and checked for loose ones.
Yep that is a stud,I found it works real good for the alternator bracket,better than a bolt.

Years ago going from regular oil to synthetic used to have issues. The synthetic would clean out all the built up carbon, and create all sorts of leaks and issues... maybe that’s what happened? Haven’t heard of it happening for a long time now, but I’ve also been out of the game for awhile...
