So, I've had 2 qts of Lakewood gear live for posi cars on my shelf for years. I just did an Auburn swap into my GP. Like a fool I read the bottle and it specifically stated for clutch style units. So I backed away slowly to ponder. GM used both clutch style and cone style units. They only sell 1 friction modifier. I see I reason I can't use it on this Auburn.

Any naysayers, or is my logic sound?

Give it a whirl, the Auburn posi die no matter what fluid is used.

You may be able to get away with it. I've ran Red line and i hate to admit off brand auto parts store brand in my 79 Malibu and my 86 El Camino years ago. The only thing I noticed with the off brand in my Malibu was with a pro series Auburn it chattered quite a bit in the turns. I ended up putting a half bottle of Motorcraft Limited Slip additive to correct the problem. Used the Motorcraft product because a friend had it and the price was right.

I would try it, you won't ruin anything. If it make noises going around tight corners then you need more additive and if there is too much additive the posi will release too soon.

As much as being negative won't help, run the non-synthetic with the ford additive like they recommend to a T, so when if fails you did everything rite.i had two in a short time and they both didn't deliver rite outta the box.jumped through all the hoops they wanted, sent everything back and they reported i did nothing wrong etc, they couldn't care.hope it works for you.

I think I'm going to run it. I have it after all. I just hate the mess of changing it out

Hmm. I've been running Auburns for over 30 years in 3 vehicles with no issues. Just need to avoid Synthetic gear lube. Did yours fail and how?
Never ran one, heard nothing but bad things about them, so why would I? Synthetic, other than the Trutrac and maybe the Detroit locker is usually a no no in any posi traction. I have run 75W90 and now 75W140 in my Dakota's Trac Loc, it sees -40 and seems to function fine. I'm glad you have had good luck, few others have. Notice how he was fixing a bad one? Just like a Gov Bomb, we should name them Ahbad😁.

Only issues I had with the Pro series Auburn was the chattering at first. (Off brand limited slip oil. Added 1/2 bottle Motorcraft Limited Slip fluid...Problem gone)
I had another Pro Series Auburn in my black 79 Monte Carlo that I wiped out within 50 passes on BF Goodrich Drag Radials. A Detroit Locker fixed that.
The two piece case Borg Warner unit that my Malibu came with fractured the preload spring plates and sent a large portion out the back cover but I was at 150,000 on the body when that happened.
Aside from not being rebuildable they are a good unit.
