i don't know the specifics why they want you to use it but it does seem like people aren't very happy with the way it performs.the old coolant has been around forever and it's been in all kinds of cast motors so maybe it has something to do with the construction of these LS style motors.

I went to a local radiator specialist, told him I'd be running a SBC with aluminum heads and aluminum rad; he told me to stay away from Dex cool and use the green coolant. I've never really heard anything good about Dex cool to be honest, everyone seems to say to stay away from it if possible.

I use whatever is cheapest and mix it with the cheapest distilled water that can be found. Except for my aluminum headed Magnum SRT8, which had Dexcool in it since at least 40,000 miles. It has 120,000 on it now. I just had my second electric fan blade blow up and destroy the original radiator. The inside of the radiator looked perfect, as did the coolant that was left in it. There, you heard something positive about Dexcool.

When it went back together I used the coolant mixture described in the first sentence of this post. It's antifreeze.

Cheap green for me too. Except the Z06 because I was too lazy for a full purge. Likely gonna be the same on the wife's Envoy as it's creeping on 100k. Coolant isn't one of those things I want the best of. All it has to do is keep my junk from freezing, rotting, and to lube the water pump.
