To me, this is just nuts

Because idiots are still paying high prices for any iteration of the cars. So even the junky ones seemingly have higher values because idiots keep paying more than they should. As soon as that stops, prices drop. Simple supply and demand.
My point was, market value on even the hot air cars is much higher than it has been in the past......what you or I "think" they should be selling for is irrelevant.

Then why do you get to say that hulk is overpriced but if I say it then it's irrelevant? Which is it? I got your point the first time. Maybe I need to clarify.

I was simply giving the economic reason of why the prices were going up, not what I think the price should be. It's pretty simple, economically speaking. Folks with the rust buckets (Un-educated to that model's general street values) see nicer versions of the cars go for big bucks on TV auctions or whatever now think their junk buried up to the wheel wells is worth $6K rotting behind the barn. And along comes that ONE GUY who buys it at $6K or whatever to validate the new basement price for hulk versions. Which automatically starts pushing up prices for cars in better condition. Plus the fact that they're not building any more of them, and more people are stashing them in their collections, or parting them out, etc. Asking prices aren't the thing to watch. Selling prices are.

You can use that same scenario for any vehicle model that in nice condition brings big $$$. Not just GNs.

^^Universal truth. Right here.^^
Problem is that there really isn't a way to know true selling prices for most cars. The seller will claim he got full price or better , the buyer will claim he stole it.

The big auctions...well that's a whole 'nother scam. Many coke machines bidding in those auctions.

Lotta bux for not much bang.

Also seems to be deluded about how much it really needs.

I'm pretty sure that same car was on Craiglist 3 years ago, in better shape, for $2500

It's isn't like there are a lot of 1985 GN's out there.

Of course the example posted in this thread is priced above market value. You know it, I know it, everyone in this thread knows it. No one here is saying you can't state the obvious.

Not many were made. Another case of a GM product from the Dark Ages that is rare but not very valuable.

On the other hand, sometimes years later something becomes a kind of "campy" favorite. Who knows.
