It’s amazing that most of NY is one way, but NYC seems to drive the whole state.

I always thought the a$$holes in NYC were quite presumptuous and pompous. For some reason when you talk about the state of 'new york' everything outside that handful of square miles is 'upstate new york' and the only part that is plain 'new york' is a miniscule chunk of land.

When you think of it, it's pretty arrogant to imply that,well, you've got an entire state sharing a name but you insist anywhere outside your city it is improper to just call it by the name of the state, no?

If this were logical and based on results it would be done by decibels. But it's not. It's New York State. It's going after ANY aftermarket exhaust mod of any kind. By the same logic they would go after motor cycles and shut down half the recreational boating industry.

But this is a multi phase problem in my opinion.

1st: I said to a friend this summer" "All these 18-22 year old idiots with straight-piped wannabe sports cars(fill in the blank here. 05' BMW's and Audi's, 2014 Ford Fusions and such) are going to ruin it for everybody.

2nd: The full size pickup truck guys who wives won't let them have a sports car/hot rod, so they buy the oversized, v8, full size pickup they definitely don't need and put loud exhaust on it that it definitely doesn't need and hammer the gas pedal at every light throughout the suburbs all day every day when they daily it.

New York cops won't touch motorcycles because they generally don't. Motorcycles have free reign over the streets to do as they please. And bikes have no emissions.

Boats are even worse. Boats have zero emissions and disperse their exhaust right into the water like a giant, straight piped water bong. You can run twin 454's with 130db exhaust and no emissions in a vehicle that runs in first gear only and serves little function to society and that,s just cool. Totally unfair.

This a way to stop the backfiring , exhaust farting idiots from backfiring through Long Island neighborhoods every time they shift or lift the throttle.

These are the dingle berries to thank for this crap. Inconsideration is generally the rule of the day for this crowd, to the point that they usually need to hire a janitor to clean up after them for cruise ins.

Regarding the law, the only thing clear about it is the ambiguity of the term ‘excessive’. Hopefully the local law enforcement will use this as how it was designed - to ticket the dingle berries, not the car enthusiast that enjoys old cars.

It does have a clear description of ticketable offenses for bike exhausts though. ‘Removable baffles’ are ticketable.

I would welcome a law like that in Michigan as long as it focused on motorcycles only. I despise Harleys with straight pipes.

the backfiring and bikes DEFINE excessive noise.i live on a half mile long stretch with a stop sign on one end and a curve on the other,you can do the math.this issue is the only reason I'm actually entertaining winter(check back later for my disposition on this)is because it will be quieter.the backfiring sounds like gun shots meets popcorn machine and the folks on bikes can't help but stand on it.they're louder most cars on this forum.maybe I'm getting on in years but wtf people?

I'd add roached-out work trucks and vans. I can't believe how many blown out muffler work/redneck vehicles there are in OKC. Surely nobody actually likes a single exhaust no muffler POS

I am in Queens, and that is in Shitty City. First off, exhaust cut-outs have ALWAYS been illegal. A very few ever bothered to install them because of the expense and difficulty routing the pipes. This law targets the rubberheads that have mind numbingly loud exhausts that you can hear coming from 10 blocks away. And when they pass by you at 3AM all your windows rattle. A big FU to those dicks. It is not the pleasing sound of a well tuned V-8 but rather the raspy out-of-tune-backfiring-fackedwith-by-a-dork-with-a-laptop 4 cylinder cars that sound like a retarded lawn mower. These are the same idiots that pass you at 100mph and cut off other cars so they can tailgate someone on the highway like the morons they are. I wish I had an M-60 mounted on my cars. Then there are the asshats that have sound systems that rattle your whole house with the worst excuse for "music" imaginable. "Eh? What did you say? I don't hear so good anymore!" GOOD FOR YOU! If you know the NYPD, NCPD, and SCPD at all you know they will only target the worst case offenders. They are way too lazy to bother with someone that just needs his leaky exhaust fixed. And they totally respect classic cars like ours. No one is going to bother a GTO with a healthy sounding V-8. As for boats, no boat has a muffler. But all exhaust underwater so the fish can enjoy the noise. It is the "racing" type boats that purposely exhaust above water so they can impress you with their ignorance and arrogance. Screw them too. This law sounds great- but I will believe it when I see it.

We saw the same thing in Toronto and Ottawa. It really is focused on the @sshats. And it is highly prejudicial and targets imports and popcorn tunes.

Have a nice car and drive it properly no one even notices. Do stupid sh*t and get noticed.

I am hoping that we will be insulated from this for a while longer out West. But, noise pollution is a problem in cities, and it will get more restrictive as they continue to stack people - people who will compound their personal problems into your life.

Either way the end is on the horizon: like it has been for the last 70+ years.

I agree. Time will tell, but I expect that the majority of hot rodders and car enthusiasts will be left alone. Also, it will be reason for the neighborhood nitwit to turn in their neighbor's that are working on cars. I have one of them BTW.

New Yorker's know what Cuomo did with the SAFE act and still reelected him. This was a matter of time, Hochul is just Cuomo in a dress. I would like to know the total number of illegals that are living in the districts of the sponsors of this law. Notice they are doing NOTHING to address that.
New York politicians especially in the Western New York area know damn well that when they associate their name with "Keeping the Bills in Buffalo" and they are guaranteed reelection to office. Sure works in Erie County. Funny how a new stadium always floods the "news" cycle during a heated election cycle.


Really think before you vote folks.
