My mistake, sorry: Yes, the transmission is a Saginaw M-20. I edited my original post.

Guy:

I decided not to buy the Hurst Pit Pack kit. I think those bushings are the same OD and ID as the nylon ones that I bought, so they also won't fit. I actually was two seconds from buying Paul's kit, until I happened to notice the mention (on his website) of them not working on stock shifters. (As a side-note for the manual transmission guys: I've checked-out some of his how-to videos, and they're pretty informative and helpful)!

Please keep us up dated on what you end up doing.
Your local machine shop could likely do some custom made bushings if you run out of options.

Followup. Went back to the Hurst Catalogue and learned that the Saginaws came in two versions, Trans Code 441, and 456. The Competition Plus shifter is a universal design that depends on the installation kit to mate it correctly to the transmission. For the 441 version the installation kit has several variants depending on whether the recipient is Chev or GM. For the Buicks, the p/n is 373-4297. For Chevvies, p/n 373-7919, with exception being 73-77 Camaro, p/n 373-8607, and 78-80 Elky, p/n 373-0017. For the 456 t-code, the installation kit carries p/n 373-0022.

As for the T-codes, the 441 and 456 both have 7 bolt side covers, but the tail shaft housings are different, the appropriate mounting bosses for the aftermarket mounting plate may or may not be drilled, and there is a third variant that was offered exclusively for the 70's era Monza/Vega.

The kit contains everything from the mounting plate to the transmission through to the correct levers and rods. The kit description offers no direct mention of bushings but they may not be included because they are not needed.

As for price and availability, check with your local speed shop or go on line.

Have fun.

The Hurst installation kit for 78-81 A body 4 speeds has been long discontinued. You can get the shifter assembly but rods, brackets and levers are a no go.

The Saginaw using the 456 code is the 3rd Gen F-body only application & not as common as the 441 code units. The biggest issue with Saginaw applications for our cars is the shape of the tail housing where the shifter mounts, a round side & a flat side. Our OE & Comp Plus shifter mount plate won't work so easily on the round side ones, as they fit better (as designed) on the flat side ones. I'm using a H-body (Vega/Monza & clones) Saginaw in my car as I seem to of found them easier when I first started to look for 4 speeds.

Hey, PaGrunt, I must be one of the lucky ones because I have that version of the 456 sitting in my basement with a stock Camaro shifter assembly bolted to it and a SBC bell housing holding it up. Had considered it for my Monte Project but the shifter they came with stock is not the stoutest in the race so when an opportunity to upgrade to the muncie came along, i took it. My other saginaw supposedly came out of a Monza and I know how flimsy they can be. Didn't help that the V-8's that had them also came with the Vega 4 banger clutch.

All:

Would anyone happen to know who offers replacement bushings for the factory Hurst shifters? The transmission is the original Saginaw M20 4-speed, and the shifter is the factory Hurst 4-speed shifter. I ordered a set of replacement Hurst shifter bushings from The Parts Place, and they're too large. I'm sure the same would be the case with the Hurst 'Pit Pack' kits. Thanks in advance!
Here something that should be the fix. Forgot I'm watching this on Fleabay. They look like what your shifter has.
