Was thinking about getting a turbo for my cutlass. It is out of a 79 cutlass now in my 87 built from the bottom up. Dual electric fans ect ect what do you think, also would like a posi rear end research tells me 80's model hurst, is there a vin code somewhere that i can see if that car has it thanks... Well, a built 350? If your running a CR in the 9's its probably not worth the money. Becuz you wont be able the run much boost. And then the next problem I see. You said it was out of a 79 Cutlass. Unless it is a Diesel 350 convert, then it is the weak window main 350 and that be scary.
Me, I was real tempted to turbo my 403 which is the same platform of a weak bottom end. But I also have a 455 so why turbo the 403 when I could turbo the 455 .Both were Low CR. But as I said its alot of money, work, and time.
I've always wondered the same thing. I would guess that if you build up the motor right it could stand it. The question is how much boost, and what kind of turbo... The option for posi is G80, it would be on the option sheet on the inside of the trunklid... if it's still there. The other "G" code is the gear ratio.
my thoughts are very cool. I would personally tune it to perform better at the lower RPM's like a diesel. That way your power band would be lower and you wouldnt be in the higher RPMS of the engine.
Compression ratio is a key factor in the turbo theory. Can't slap a turbo on a high compression motor and expect it to run on pump gas.
I bet you can buy the chevy kit, but just find a junk set of olds headers and weld the header pipes to the olds flanges. can't me that much more that is different...
Just remembered this. I think this is an online only car show, pretty much just like muscle car tv. They are actually building a turbo Olds engine. It's in an A body, but these should give you some ideas.
