Texas82GP's GMT900

Sealed is sealed, doesn't matter how.
I hope it is sealed. It's been difficult to not buy a new tank tonight. I'm very angry at GM. Oh well.

But he already welded it. . .

I used the JB Plastic Weld on a couple bumper mounts on the wife's Envoy. Originally the bumper skin had molded tabs that were plastic welded to the mounts which are separate pieces. I glued them back together with that stuff a couple years ago and they're still holding. Supposedly it kinda melts the plastic as it cures to get a good bond, like the way PVC glue works.
I like this feedback. I hope it holds.

Over the years I've gotten a feel for your standard of "right". It might feel like you're taking a shortcut, but try not to lose any sleep over it. I don't think it's a safety issue. If it weren't for the intermittent light on the dash, you'd never know it was breathing.

I agree 100% with DRIVEN on this one. Your attention to detail is never anything less than meticulous. It might feel like a temporary fix to you, but I don't think there's anything wrong that being permanent.

$500+ is a lot of money for something that JB Weld can handle.
And the plastic welder is the next solution if the 'fix me' light comes back on.

Keeping the thread unlocked. The odometer rolled 230,000 miles yesterday morning on the way to meet Dad for breakfast. It's been a relatively trouble free year running on last fall's work. The fuel tank "repair" was an immediate failure. I bought a new tank within a week or two of the last post above. I've never found time to install it. It's been sitting on the garage floor all year, new in the box.

The 4L80E now has just over 60k miles on it. The cam swap has about 148k miles on it.

The Cooper tires I put on it many pages back are shot. I have a new set of tires in the storage that I bought a few months back. I need to get them installed in the next few months.

I'm planning to put some work into the truck over the holidays. Updates coming.

Is the new shop going to have a tire machine? Mine has paid for itself several times over.

Absolutely will. I won't be able hold out until then, though. I went back several pages in the thread after posting the reply above, and I put the Coopers on it in May of 2021. In April of 2021 the truck had 190,600 miles on it. I'm guessing the Coopers have 39k miles on them now.

I have two wheels on the truck which look fine, and two whose finish has failed. One the powder coat is flaking off. The other the clear coat has failed. I got a new wheel for my birthday from my Dad and step-mom yesterday. I ordered new TPMS sensors this morning. I really want another wheel before I swap on the tires/new sensors so I may hold out and see if Santa brings one.

I can buy one myself, of course, but I don't really need to spend the money. Building the shop is fantastically expensive, as you well know. I still have a little Christmas shopping to do. I just paid the insurance on the truck and am about to pay another year of insurance on the Roadmaster. On and on. In other words, I'm being too responsible to buy another wheel right now. More than you wanted to know.
