Grandpa Car: 1979 Cutlass Thread

"And almost 2 years later, still on that same tank of gas"..... thats some super gas you got there. 😛

My battery didn't survive the winter so I replaced it yesterday. After cranking enough to get some fuel to the carb, it started right up. Obviously...taco run. It ran okay but felt a little lazy. I ate by the boat ramp then threw $20 fresh ethanol-free down its gullet. Ran better on the way home. My most recent fuel receipt was 11/21.

Glad you can still find corn-free gas in your neighborhood.

I poured in some stabilizer and ran up to the gas station to top it off last night. Even managed a couple baby burnouts on the way home. My intention was to wash it this morning, then throw the cover over it for the winter. Woke up to snow on the ground.

I haven't gotten any closer to putting the 425 Olds in it. After the Dorset project is finished, I'll start chaneling some attention this direction. The only thing that might jump the line is my '35 pickup. We'll see how it all plays out.

I'm interested in the Dorset, and enjoy all of your posts, but am really looking forward to seeing movement on this car and the 35. I really like this car the way it is, but with your attention to detail, I know the 425 swap will bring it to the next level.

I appreciate the interest. The '35 has always been the priority but it's out of my hands for the time being. Hopefully there will be an update on that in a couple weeks.

As for the Cutlass, it's all built in my head. Everything I have planned is strictly mechanical, so the appearance won't change at all. I think it probably makes sense to do it in stages to minimize down time. 9" and driveline first, then a sturdier 200-4R build, then the engine swap. It only takes time and money.

Will be a fun project though.
