When I first built my shop, one of the things that I had wanted to include was air conditioning. I had a big window mount unit that I had planned to repurpose to that end and had had the electrician rough in the circuit for future completion. Recently came to learn that the wiring that was used was too light for the unit. Apparently it needs wiring that can support a 30 Amp circuit and what I have is only for 20 amp. So now the wiring may have to be pulled and replaced.
Beyond that, the A/C is going to need a hole in the wall in which to reside and since I used 2 x 6 studs in my framing, I now plan to use 2 x 12's to create the box into which the unit will be stuffed. For this to work I have to create the equivalent of a new window opening, meaning jack studs and headers and all that good stuff. The plan is to sister the wall studs as far up as the fire break boards, and then lay the bottom of the box on the fire break. Inside will be flush with the existing wall, so I will have 6 inches of box floor protruding beyond the exterior wall to offer better support for the A/C unit itself as it is fairly heavy. The whole box is 12 inches deep; the header over it will be built from 2 x 6's laid on edge. For that I will need four layers each to be cut to fit. Oh what fun. I did remove and set aside the lower section of wall board and i am prepping that in advance for the re-assembly portion of the program.

As for the wiring, that is likely to require the services of an electrician. Hopefully it can be done as a side job by someone who happens to know what they are doing around breaker boxes; And that ain't me.

Got my first big boy tool box. All I had was the dinky thing on the end for years and I've always hated it. Lowes leasing program let me pay a dollar and seven cents for it out the door.

Now I need more tools. 😉

Now you start the quest to fill those draws with tools you may or may not use in you life time. Choose wisely & avoid the tool trucks.

Maybe we get an internal go-fund-me going. I'm in for $100. See if we can stuff that full.

I remember my first top/bottom box, took about all I had in the bank but got to start some where.

I still have my first three drawer chest from Beach. Filled that up and then picked up a two drawer lower addition and the roller chest. They are all stacked on top of each other and the stack will roll,,,,,,,,,,if i try real hard. My shop chest is a Harbour Freight unit and it is full too. Plus there are numerous small "fishing tackle" sized boxes into which the specialty stuff gets put when I acquire enough of something in that line that it merits its own postal code. Oh, yeah, there is the bench and the lower and upper cabinets and cumulative storage is always one location short of what needs to be shelved and stashed.

As for the saga of the A?C, it is on hold. The viability of the unit has come into question and if it doesn't work it is not going into the hole and I am not cutting holes in walls so that my precious warm air can escape this time of year.
