Was there a factory rear sway bar that went behind rear end instead of under?

my thoughts on this was: theoretically, the earlier version behind the diff cover is a better torsional spring (geometrically), but GM musta did the math and demonstrated the one with the bend under the cover was 99% the same and allowed draining the differential without removing the sway bar (since no drain plug).

I think the bar diameter (e.g. 7/8 or 1") has more impact on stiffness (MOI).
 
In 11th grade I bought a 7.5 off a guy and he was running a regal with both styles of rear sway bars under that car. He had the regular style that we see all the time on the lwr control arms and the style that goes behind the diff attached to his slapper bars that were cranked all the way up. He also had 2 sway bars on the front I don't exactly know how he attached that in the center but I know he cramed 2 sets end links down to fit 2 bars up there. it was all to much going on.and he was a super weird dude to boot too.

Doesn't matter as far as I'm concerned. Bar diameter/bar resistance to flex are the determining factors

CPP makes a real decent bar that is effective and more economical as compared to any other offering. And it will basically bolt on depending on your tube diameter (calling 81cutlass ). Jake has one of these installed presently. I used one as well, but I outgrew it.

I will mention, sway bars/ anti-roll bars have a specific purpose. Straight line setups are not want you want for a car that you want to handle through a corner at 20-50mph. So buy accordingly.
