    It's your dimmer switch. It's located on the steering column.

    You could run your own wire to a constant hot at the fuse box. You can also check out 12volt.com to get wire colors also.

    wiring new gauges

    You could tap into the illumination wire. This is a gray wire and you could tap into it at the ashtray light, radio, heater a/c, etc. , any interior light that turns on when you turn your interior lights on.

    Hey j3 did you hook up your gauges yet? I'm looking for what two terminals on the back of the volt gauge do I hook up the 12v and the ground to. I'm pretty much doing the same thing to my 79 monte carlo and got all the gauges going except the volt gauge.
