Re: Char-Broiled Aluminum Pistons after just 2500 Miles... W
Looks super rich to me.
10:1 should be fine on 93 with no additives. The carburetor could use some tuning though.
Race gas or pump gas? Solid roller cam? I would leave the 377 where it's at unless it was built using an aftermarket block. GM 400 blocks have some weak points.
The track 1 heads are a good head when ported by the right person. I had a set on a 11:1 383 with a Comp 12-900-9 solid roller...
GSX Stage 1 heads are on a 455 big block Buick. He will have as much luck with those heads working/fitting on a 305 as he will LS1 heads or LT1 heads. Like he said, "good advice". I want to see pics, lol
You going to have a struggle to get that 305 to turn a 13sec slip. You'd be money ahead by starting with a 350, but if your dead set on trying to make the 305 perform....>>>>>>The 305 heads have 58cc chambers. Vortec 350 heads have 64cc chambers. That's going to hurt what little compression...
Could possibly be a rod knock. I just rebuilt a 350 that had a knock in park right above idle. The bearings were decent but the crank was scored bad. Had to put a crank kit in it.
