I posted the mods in my first post and wats the best set of heads to put on or would it be best to send my heads out n have them worked? I was thinkin some nitrous would the stock bottom end hold n still be safe for a while
882 heads have done me pretty good. that or a set off a 400 chevy with big valves. Camel hump heads are every chevy mans favorite. or a set of LS1 or LT1 aluminum heads off a camaro or vette. you can have your heads worked for bigger valves but its goin to cost ya a few bucks to do.

You going to have a struggle to get that 305 to turn a 13sec slip. You'd be money ahead by starting with a 350, but if your dead set on trying to make the 305 perform....>>>>>>The 305 heads have 58cc chambers. Vortec 350 heads have 64cc chambers. That's going to hurt what little compression you have. I'd look for some HO 305 heads such as 601 castings with a 53cc chamber. Have those worked (pocket ported) and set up with good springs. Then go with more cam and converter.

If you put a set of big valve heads off of a vortec 350, you'll get better flow and higher compressions.

You would actually lose compression.

LS1 heads?! Not gonna happen. LT1? Not them either. Any of the other ones are gonna drop compression as well. None of those heads are good options.

If it were me, have some work done to your heads, or pick up a set of 305 Vortec heads.

lots of good advice here
I heard Stage 1 heads off the old GSXs were pretty good too

for the same amount of money to get the 305 pumping a little, you could get a 350 that revs higher, puts out more power and gets the same gas mileage. I know its been said a thousand times over, but there is a reason for that.
No offense, but if you don't have enough money to swap the motor, you don't have enough money to build a 305 (not just targeted at you BTW). Cars cost money and if you're not willing to spend at least 500-1000 bucks (or more) on your motor, you're not really gonna improve anything.

The thing that sucks with the 305 is they are incompatible with most performance heads without machine shop work ($$$$). Even if you wanna get bigger valves on the 305 heads, the machine work will cost the same as getting a second hand 350 (I bought mine for 150 bucks).... that would be where I start.

If for some reason you really like 305s (many do), then I think I recall there being certain 305s that had bigger valves, get a set of heads from one of them (or the whole motor). Someone else on here might know what I'm talking about. (P.S., use any standard 350 heads on a 305 and you're gonna run like 6.5:1 compression)

Also, don't put slicks on.. you're just gonna break something. Maybe some narrow drag radials, but still I would put that money elsewhere.
