882 heads have done me pretty good. that or a set off a 400 chevy with big valves. Camel hump heads are every chevy mans favorite. or a set of LS1 or LT1 aluminum heads off a camaro or vette. you can have your heads worked for bigger valves but its goin to cost ya a few bucks to do.
I don't get the GSX stage 1 heads joke... :'(
someone fill me in, lol

You going to have a struggle to get that 305 to turn a 13sec slip. You'd be money ahead by starting with a 350, but if your dead set on trying to make the 305 perform....>>>>>>The 305 heads have 58cc chambers. Vortec 350 heads have 64cc chambers. That's going to hurt what little compression you have. I'd look for some HO 305 heads such as 601 castings with a 53cc chamber. Have those worked (pocket ported) and set up with good springs. Then go with more cam and converter.
I think you could get the 305 to do a 13! You just need to make it under 3000 lbs race weight and run 4.11 gears with slicks... 🙂
Personally I wouldn't waste even 1 more second with a 305. For the price of a set of vortec heads (new, of course), you could buy a low-mileage whole junkyward 350 and be miles ahead.
if you want to get a 305 into the 13s. cheapest easiest way is to spray it.
the 58cc head with the small valves suck. you need to change the pistons to get better compression but then you need better heads. wasted money.
look into a used 350 that someone put a cam and maybe some rockers and heads to. ive sold a 350 with intake, cam, and aluminum heads for like $1500. i see motors like that all the time. for $2000 you can get a decent piece that will drop right in.
I know a lot of you may think that a 305 with 350 heads are worthless, hilarious or just plain stupid but a buddy of mine has a 85 ss monte with the 305. i put a set of shaved camel hump heads 2.02/1.68 with roller rockers on it and flat top pistons, stroker crank and rods from eagle. cam was comp from jegs (not sure about the ratings) full length headers with 3 inch collectors dual 2.5. edelbrok intake, with a 750 edelbrok carb. 200r4 transmission w/mild shift kit and 2000 stall convertor. 3.55 richmond gears and eaton posi with 28x15 mickey thompson et street's. the car runs in the mid 12's in the 1/4.

Last fast car i owned was a turbo honda which was a high 11 low 12 second car then i got tired of spending more money in a four banger so i sold it n bought other chevrolets which lead to me getting this monte carlo from my father, i can easily swap a 350 or a big block but i just put this L69 in my car last winter with the mods listed i dont wanna go thru pulling the motor again unless i really have to thats why i rather stick with my motor im not trying to go crazy fast but a 13 second maybe 12s on the funny juice be pretty cool
Looks like you already have most of the parts for a solid 305 build. What that motor needs now is a set of heads. You have a couple decent choices for 305 heads. The route I took on my car was a set of 305 vortec heads that I picked up really cheap on ebay. If I remember correctly you are looking for 520 casting number heads. You will need a vortec intake manifold and self-aligning rockers for a vortec swap, though. Another good option is a set of world torquer 305 heads. They flow decent, have the largest valves you can put in your car (1.94) with the cam you have, and come with 58cc chambers. You can also keep your current intake with the torquer 305 heads, so that's a bonus.
If you can find a pair of heads cheap you can have some fun pounding on this engine for a bit while you plan your next build.
GSX Stage 1 heads are on a 455 big block Buick. He will have as much luck with those heads working/fitting on a 305 as he will LS1 heads or LT1 heads. Like he said, "good advice". I want to see pics, lol
