well the lock up should cycle. if you don't have a controller to lock it up then you will burn it up. I know mine did. Also the T5 is weak. A 305 with a powershift will break it. /go the whole way and get the T56 or TKO. Even the world class T5 is somewhat weak.

305 carb will be too small. can work for now but work on another one. I think that was your question. also go ahead and replace the motor mounts for the poly. cheap insurance and maint. SBC mounts are SBC mounts. They will work but each brand style are not created equal.

sounds like the circuit board might have gone bad. the first thing to check is to see if the plastic cover gets fogged up in the morning or if condensation is getting in some how. if so that might have shorted the board (well really a tape not a board). i am not aware of any notorious ground...
