I heard a lot bad things about gov locks, so I'm gonna have to pass on that. I'm looking to upgrade to a 7.625 unit with 28 spline axles, and 373 gears.

Couple more questions, is it absolutely necessary to buy a new bearing kit, and stronger differential cover or can I get buy with my old stuff? And what's the deal with C-clip elimintors, do I need this too?

You don't need to replace the bearings unless they are damaged. As for the rest what are you planning doing with your car?

The car will probably never see the track, I will be running street tires, and it will not be driven on the interstate too much. I just want it to be a badass street car that will hold up to the burnouts and doughnuts.

The carrier bearings are the same from a 90's camaro . The pinion bearings are the different ones. You can re-use the stock ones if you can get them off the old pinion. I used the shim off the camaro pinion with the G-body bearings and it cuts a perfect pattern no whining yet after 1500 miles and the gears were used too.

Make sure to add the friction modifier to the gear oil after the install :!: .

I just bought a carrier from a 02 Camaro with 323 gears, are the bearings the same for that too, or do I have to buy a bearings kit. I probably won't use 323 gears as I feel I won't be happy with them, plus I plan on running really tall and wide tires, so I'm going to buy some 373s. I really wanted to run 410s though.

The bearings are the same on the carrier. You will need to get the G-body style pinion bearings. Just make sure that they run smooth in the races you are going to use.

I drive a lot of highway with mine and I like the 3.23 ratio. With a 4l60e first gear is still a lot of fun and it cruises at a calm 2k rpm in OD. With a 28 inch tall tire.

3.73's with a th400 will be screaming at speed but may be needed with the higher first gear. That's up to you.
