The 120mph speedo was this a 1987 442 only option? Did it also come on 87 and 88 cutlass with the rally gauges?

What happens to the 85 mph speedo when you go past 85mph?
1. dose the cable break?
2. does it damage the speedo head?
3. both of the above?
4. other?
5. non of the above?

Has anyone recalibrated there 85 mph unit, and are you happy with it?

The 120mph speedo was an '87 442 ONLY option.

Nothing happens to the 85mph speedo when you go past 85mph. It just disappears.

For years I ran my 3.73 gears without recalibrating the speedometer from the original 2.56 rear gears. I just worked out what 35mph was (around 50 on the speedo if I recall) and 55mph was around 70 on the speedo. When I got on the interstate the speedometer needle would disappear once I was doing 65+ and from there I would just look at my tach for my speed.

My brother's '81 still has the stock ralley gauges and after the 403 was installed has seen plenty of 85+mph blasts in the 1/4 with no problem.

As shown above, you can have your stock speedo "reprinted" and recalibrated for just about anything you'd want.

Does anyone know what it takes to recalibrate a speedo? Is it possible to do yourself? I'm interested in learning more about how that works

If you just need to recalibrate the speedo because of a gear change, that is all handled with the speedo drive and driven gears in the transmission.

If your looking to change what the speedometer actually has printed on it (say going from 85mph to 150mph) then that's a job for a speedometer shop.

If you were to recalibrate your speed O what would you have it set to in 120mph, 130mph, 140mph, 142mph, 150mph.
What mph would you pick and why?
Thanks for the replys
