Getting some valve work on her today, this is another one of my personal restorations. Planning on getting her a wood bed/chopping the frame to a short bed conversion and a big rear window installation. Oh and move the gas tank so I don’t have that unleaded cologne smell when I step out 😁

Anyone worked on one of these beauties before? Tips, pointers? Seems like it should go pretty well and straightforward but there’s always something!!!

I love this style truck. Tank relo is a must. Drove one years ago that had four wheel manual drums, stopping was downright scary. If you plan on putting some miles on it, upgraded brakes is recommended.

Absolutely! Right now I’m stopping a 1/2 block away and swerving on hard turns.... power steering going to get added as well.

What’s the best way to do the trick? Ive heard power steering pumps from certain 70’s model cadillacs bolt right onto the block, and the entire hub assembly with disc brakes is apparently interchangeable with the C10. Any thoughts on this? Still have to change the master cylinder and proportioning valve I’m assuming?
Mines 4 drums it’s horrible. Absolutely horrible.

I think if you do a 500 Caddy swap you won't have to worry about making a PS pump fit.

Ok that’s what the old timers here tell me thanks for confirming that. I still need to do more research about the proportioning valve and master cylinder. The disc brake hub assembly may fit effortlessly but It still seems too good to be true that the same lines and valves/cylinder would work for discs. I may be incorrect though.

To clarify, I mean the whole Cadillac engine, not just the pump.

What's in it now? 283?

Ok that makes more sense. I got the truck recently I was told it does not have a stock 1964 engine in it, if I’m not mistaken the biggest size was a 4.8 for that year, though I could be incorrect. I was told it has a 350 in it, I haven’t really fiddled with the truck at all I dropped it at my mechanic’s, I asked him to check the serial # and confirm with me yesterday. We’ll see!

What's your goal for drivetrain? Manual or automatic trans?

There's cheap options to get disc brakes all 4 corners, BUT you lose the parking brake. Not such a big deal if you have an automatic and aren't parking on steep hills, but, not so good if you're running a manual trans obviously
