1970 Olds Cutlass S Rat Rod Style

I polished the factory 88 Cutlass rims and put them on.

Thanks Frank, I also duct taped the one vent opening in the air exchanger under the hood grill. Now no constant cold air coming in through vents. I need this car right up till winter with Dakota down again and needing 2 grand in parts.

Well I have the motor and trans out and into 88 CSC. I added the lock up solenoid wiring from the kit for the 2004R. I switched speedo cables and added the cruise transducer. I need to rebuild the washer pump, wire in the cruise and lock up switches, add the 6AL box etc. I made up the 7mm Summit retro ignition wires, they will look right at home. I put a fast curve in the Mallory Breakerless as well. I have the Olds 350 pulled down to a short block, tucked away the Performer can with lifters in order. I added a fresh rubber rear main and started cleaning gasket surfaces. I am adding a 1" open spacer under the Qjet on the Performer manifold. I will do some grinding to match up better between the spacer and manifold. I am going to clean up and plan on degreeing the custom 214/214 .472/.472 on a 110 LSA from Mark Remell, just waiting on it to get here. The fresh 2.07/1.56 #6 heads just need a quick clean up, then .028" head gaskets for 9 to 1. Dregreasing and scraping gasket surfaces. I am making this motor look stock with obvious and not so obvious add on's. Stay tuned.

I also put new shoes in the front brakes. I picked up a spare 14 x 6 aluminum rim from a member and bought 3 P205/70R14 BFG Radial T/A tires for a spare and in place of the 205/75R14's in the front to match the back and drop the front end some as well.

Always thought this was a particularly mean looking style of olds 🙂

I also like this style best, it was rough but the $1500 price tag made it possible. I will get pics up when I get it running again.

I got the cam degreed, pretty much bang on. Here is what it looks like.

There I erased the duplicate pictures. I extended the boom on my Chinese engine hoist. I then realized that it needs a counter weight. I thought what do I have stand on it and push? Then I looked on the floor of my shop. A bare #8 head, a half stripped 4A head, I strapped them to the back. Don't let anyone tell you the 4A head is a weight saving design, it is heavier than the #8 head. I also have 3 more #8 heads and 2 cracked 5.9 Magnum heads as I probably need at least 2 more added on when I have 550#+ in the air.

Another thing to note. I bought a two line replacement sender to get the fuel gauge working a again. A new prebent carb to fuel pump hard line from Supercar's Unlimited and a Carter 2 line pump was also bought. The prebent line fits great, even with the 1" open spacer. I also bought 2.5" turn downs for the exhaust, hopefully won't be too loud.
