Roof doesn't look too bad, but it probably doesn't come off well in picture form. Hope you can whack it out decently.

You will probably need a used rear window, I know the later Cutlass back windows are discontinued.

TH200s get used in lieu of PGs, TH350s and TH400s all the time - to save mass (static and rotating). As I understand it most of the mods from a TH200-4R trans transfer over.

I have a friend who runs them in his Malibu. They are dirt cheap and light weight.

Nice find. The Calais is the top of the line and has the nicer front end in my opinion. I've owned a 79 el camino with 305 and 4 speed and currently have my 79 442 5 speed project for sale. Let me know if you need any info on the 4 speed set up.

Thanks. I've never been into a manual transmission, or installed one. My plan is to build a mild L31 vortec 350 to put in front of the saginaw 4-speed. It appears I have everything I need to reinstall the transmission. I'm going back with a new pressure plate and throw out bearing. First question is are all pilot bearings interchangable? Is the one required for the L31 different than what would have been in the car originally? Can I use the same flywheel?

Does your friend with the malibu, thrash on that 3-speed 200 regularly? I'm interested in knowing what usually breaks first in them.

thanks for joining. lets hear more about you and your cars with an introduction. being the owner of two 5 speed cars, i would love to hear more about the 442.

I would think sunshell first and then the forward drum on the TH200, assuming the main layout is the same. Few will know them for rebuild''s, the TH250/350 was a no brainier swap and done at the first sign of trouble. The internet mentions how much more reliable the 2004R was, not so much. I was told they almost all died around 130,000 km by my old boss and the wrecker, who's dad passed the yard down to him told me his dad said similar and I have his last good used 2004R. Although he did have a good BOP TH200 which also defy the odds.

The 1 piece rear main seal motors have a different flywheel. It can be had just about anywhere. They are lighter and cheap. You don't have to use the 79 pressure plate, but you have to use the 79 clutch. The Saginaw has a coarse spline input shaft. As far as I know the throw out bearing isn't special, but I would just order one up from Rock Auto or you favorite parts place and be done with it.

Okay the flywheel can be had off ebay relatively cheap. What pressure plate needs to be used or are they all universal? I see the full package on RockAuto is reasonably priced. Can I buy that whole package and get a flywheel and be done with it?
