If it continued corroding under the liner it should be bubbling. Try pushing hard with your fingers to check for soft spots and if it passes that climb in and jump around, after all is made to carry stuff, this has always worked for me, the finger pushing came about after I almost went through the bed jumping on one.

Factory shifter should be an "ITM" (looks like a hurst with out the positive stop bolts) I even used a hurst rebuild kit what I did mine, chrome handle that curves back and tapers towards the drivers seat, looks like the right place for Saginaw Trans. I sold in the fall a complete bellhousing/z bar/trans/shifter/steering column/dash cluster/pedals for $700
Ouch... a dislike!?!?

So I sold my Caprice to a guy today on a farm. After the sale he decides to bring me into his barn and show me some of the cars he's got there. Wouldn't you know, a 1982 EL Camino SS exactly like the one we're talking about.

It was in very solid shape(despite being dirty). I offered to buy it but it's being willed to another family member.

Probably a fat finger on a cell phone.

I'm just joking about the dislike, broad shoulders... I gave up G Bodies to mess with AMC's for 10 years so I can take it!

Just glad to see some saved unique cars out there.... reminds me of an ORIGINAL 4 speed Black Knight that came through my familys used car dealership when I was a kid....

well, I drove past on my way back home and it wasn't there. I don't know what I'd do with the thing anyway, so its probably just as well. 🙁 No place, no time, no $$$.

The gentleman who purchased your Caprice wouldn't happen to be a Cheektowaga Barber shop owner would he?
That El Camino looks very familiar.
