Beautiful car.....should bring top dollar. Only 124 V8 4 speed Malibus that particular year? Thought they were a little more common than that.

Very nice example. That's one of the nicest factory 4-spd Malibus I've seen in awhile. Put it on Bring a Trailer and see where the bids go. You can always place a reserve on it.

I think that the production number that you quoted is incorrect. I also have a 1980 V8/4 speed Malibu which was built, sold and titled originally in Canada. I have documentation from GM Vintage Vehicle Services here in Canada, which shows that there were 124 V8/4 speed Malibus built and sold in Canada in 1980. There were V8/4 speed Malibus sold in the U.S., but the number that I have seen quoted over the years is 202 sold in the States in 1980. I do not have any documentation that shows the exact number sold in the States though, since GM didn't track those records in the States. This is not meant to diminish the fact that you have a rare car there though. Even allowing for a slight margin of error, its probably safe to say that there were less than 350 of those cars sold in both Canada and the States for the 1980 model year. Also, 1980 was the last year that GM offered the V8 with the 4 speed in the Malibu. In 1981, you could still get a Malibu with a V6 with a 3 speed stick (GM of Canada built 25,000 Iraqi Malibus in 1981, and there were some built and sold in the States as well), and I believe (though I'm not 100% sure of this) that you could still get an El Camino with the V8/4 speed in 1981. If someone could chime in here and confirm that, it would be great. As I said, still a rare car, and it looks like you have a nice one there. I hope you can find a good caretaker for it.

The El Camino/Caballero were the only '81 & last A/G in the US & Canadian market to have a 4 speed offered as an option.

Very good description you gave. From what I see production numbers for the US was 202 and production numbers for Canada was 124. So overall production of V8 with 4 speed should be 326. Where they were shipped and sold nobody knows. This one obviously went to the US based on the invoice. I would guess the original buyer for the specifically based on how well option it is.
