1983 Big Block Monte Slow Build

All done, sir! At least the verification bit. It squatted the truck pretty good.

Thank you GP403. Today (or tomorrow) is finally the day this goes on the lift to undergo some deghettofication to make it easier to have around.

Gonna have to redo some brake lines, secure the exhaust better and zap a wideband bung in it, install the new front shocks, brake pads for whatever is metal on metal, run some fresh wiring, drop a new sender into the already new tank, try to get the gauges working, make the key start the car again, get a longer driveshaft, and set the pinion angle up properly. Then I can try and tune it. Oh, and fix the mess with the door handles, door card, tumblers, and install new weatherstripping on the one side which I have. And get a functioning dipstick and change the oil. Probably not going to get it all done so I'll make a list, prioritize it, and go from there.

Shooting for today now, I got the transmission back in the Camaro and initially it seems that I fixed the original problem, but the clutch fork was hitting the pressure plate so I wasn't able to swap cars around. Gonna deal with that tonight and hopefully get a decent list cooked up for this thing. Question: does anyone know what u-joint might be at the front of my driveshaft? Or put another way, was there a standard for which joint would come on a 2wd sliding TH400 yoke?

I said F it with the Camaro, I'll deal with that in my own garage. Motored it onto the trailer and just didn't push the clutch in all the way. Got this pig on the lift and made a list. The ghetto****ery did not disappoint, there were a number of hidden gems here.

On that last pic, take a good hard look at the brake line that crosses over from the driver's frame rail to the passenger's side. I'm curious how the factory routed that one. This line, as pictured, has scraped the ground multiple times. This, among many other reasons, are why I don't think I've been over 40mph in this thing. In fact, most of my putt putting has topped out around 25 and not even on public roads. My intention with this round of maintenance is not to make the car good per se, rather more usable and less of a death trap to the point I can tune the carb. That's a tall order for the week or so this heap will be on the lift, so we'll see how it goes. Long term I envision a Roadkill theme for the thing with more of a focus on the 1/4 mile. Since it does have a low mileage 6th gen bottom end, it should tolerate some boost/spray/ignorance/shenanigans quite well once it's halfway solid.

Take a measurement on it and see what cross references on the internets..

Likely takes a 1350 series size cap for the slip yoke. If the original G Body shaft was used, it will take smaller 3R caps so you may have a conversion u-joint up front. I just read your whole thread on this car today. There's really no way of knowing what you have until you get it out and measure it.
