1983 Big Block Monte Slow Build

Actually curious to see how you do this given they are rubber pads..

I should have taken pics of the lower radiator mounts. I actually meant to today to set the stage for tomorrow. There is no rubber, it's all hanging on by a thread.

I didn't get very far today but some progress is better than none. Remember those radiator mounts I alluded to yesterday? Here they are in all their glory.

Driver's side, the better of the 2.

I believe this was intended to support the upper plate, but securing the bottom was too much to ask.

There's how that last one is supposed to look. Not that it's a good look.

There's the star of the show.

So we have 2 similar yet different mounts, because why wouldn't we?

I decided to lift the radiator so it's flush with the bottom of the core support. I peeled up at it with the hood shut and there's plenty of room. This radiator is still shorter than the core support opening anyway.

As you can see here. Take note of those snazzy spacers to lower that top plate.

Here is this morning's epiphany: rather than hold up the back of the mount, why not prevent the front from lifting? Those flat stock bits I added bolt to an existing hole in the core support. And they don't do crap, so I'll just end up burning more of that from the back of the lower mounts to the frame itself. I just have to deconflict with the lower hose on the passenger side. Couple other gems I thought I'd share.

Funny thing, my friend had a Malibu catch on fire the same way. We caught it instantly so his only loss was a battery cable. Not his doing, just as this isn't mine. Last one:

Yeah that seems legit.

Now I understand better on your mounts. Are you going stock size rad to mount it back in OE location?

No, gonna bandaid the thing so this big old Griffin gets properly supported. It's of no consequence since both the frame and core support need replaced anyway.

Most of this "rigged" work throughout the car looks like it would take more effort than just doing it the right way.
