well i have Ga"s. So i guess these are decent. my pops said he had these PnP'd, i was thinking of gettin a full roller setup. anyone know if there is like a full kit or any advice? like i said really not to familiar with this engine but anxious to learn.

Im a ford tech so thats pretty much my story there. lol but i guess even the ford guy has a gm packed away somewhere. thanks for the help guys and hope i dont bug anyone with the questions.

I think full roller is a waste unless you plan on really high rpms which really isn't needed on a 455.

Well the only benefit he will really get from that is that he can run the cheap oil without worrying about a flat cam.. Plus the cam can be more aggressive..

After putting the roller in my 455, I'll never go back. They are nice! Lumpy idle and plenty of vacuum!

UPDATE:
Majority of the short block is back together, sans oil pan. I'm only working on this one night a week, I think I've made pretty good progress. By next monday it should be completely assembled.

My cleaned pistons.

If all goes well, there should be a completed engine pic to put up next week! It will be painted soon after.

Well I finally got back down to the shop this Monday, although I had to fix a massive vaccum leak on the truck and put on an alternator before I could start on the engine.

I started by painting my W-Z manifolds with high heat (1500 degree) black paint.

All I really got done tonight was to get the heads on and to mock up the engine a little.

The transmission should be going to be rebuilt sometime soon, and I should have a complete motor in not too long...
Summer is fast approaching :friday:

What cam did you end up going with?

I'm just curious as that Lunati cam seemed like it had about the right specs at around 280-290 duration especially with a tight LCA. Overlap is good for big blocks. Especially ones with not so big intake valves.

Re: 1984 Cutlass Calais / BBO 455 build thread

I went with the Lunati, but I have the big valve heads. (2.07int, 1.65exh)

Re: 1984 Cutlass Calais / BBO 455 build thread

That is still small for a big block (2.19s are common on 454s) which is partly why ported heads are so important on a bbo. Overbore & cylinder notching can help as well.

My camshaft is a Crane Hydraulic roller. 242/254 dur. @ .050, .595"/.595" lift, 114LS.

Engine is a .060 over 455. Edelbrock heads w/ 2.120/1.171 valves. 11.3:1 Arias flat top pistons, aluminum rods, Offy Super-sonic intake, etc.

What color are you painting the engine?
