Awesome project!

I was looking at the picture in your post above of the two oil pans. I instantly recognized th SBO pan on the right but have never seen the olds pan that is on the left side of the pic. Was that pan specific to the Olds powered Riviera only?

I've always read about these being different but this is the first time I've torn into one. Next time I take the hood off the car I'll take a pic of the trans and then it will make sense. It's shaped that way for clearance. I think these pans are supposed to have an extra quart of capacity but I'm not 100% sure. Eldorados are set up the same way with Cadillac engines. The fwd Cadillac pans from the 472s/500s are what you need for engine swaps and they aren't exactly easy to come by from what I recall.

The 307 had a sh*t load of nylon timing gear teeth in the pick up. The silver pieces are from the main bearings. There was also a spun rod bearing.

Here's the difference in pick ups between fwd and rwd. Fwd is on the right

A little progress today. The saying "a diamond in a goat's *ss" comes to mind for some reason.

Me too! Carb needs a rebuild so that's going to set me back a week. Im going to re-bush it and do a few other improvements. Whoever had it last ditched the CCC carb and distributor. I kind of wanted to retain that but oh well. The carb it came with was from a '75 Buick 455. I have a 403 carb so I'm going to build that instead. Im going to say it's a safe assumption that the trans lock-up probably isn't working either. I'm going to see how it runs before I do much else.

Since I went with electric fans on my GP, I swapped out the 7 blade fan I had sitting around.

The power of beer motivation helped get it running yesterday! I'm actually shocked how well it runs for a $300 engine. This is with the old carb. I still need to wrap up all the loose ends now, but I wanted to see how it ran before I went any further.

After plastic media blasting. I really didn't want to have to go that far but the inside was pretty nasty. Now to figure out what finish to go with?
