There is always the Home Depot and Wal Mart solution too. Buy poster board at Wal Mart to make a template, then buy some roof flashing at Home Depot and cut out your block off plate. If flashing is too expensive, you can cut your panel from a scrap body part with a large enough flat section.

Just a little update, im starting the suspension. ill show some pics while i get things installed ill keep my final wheel choice top secret till i put them on...let the suspense build...(its a secret to me too 😛 ). hope to have everythng done by late fall. and then on to the rear end and transmission. and then down the road the paint/403 will come last....well, still not sure if want to get under the hood detailed and put the 403 in or get the paint job first. Looking to spend about $3k to 4k on each. just not sure which one i want to do first yet.
 
This is the thread that got me to the board. I'll keep tuning in to see how it works out. Looks great so far. Hoopefully I'll be joining you on your quest. Looks great so far.

Man, it took me 2 hours but I read the whole thread. Jeezus. I've never read a build like that. Beautiful car in the end (though still not finished). Very inspirational. Personal life + Finished project = Great thread.
 
I would do the mechanicals first and not worry too much about cosmetics on your car. Mechanicals are easy to do compared to cosmetics. Your car looks great the way it is, it just needs the power to go with the looks. Remember that once you start doing the body, it is all too easy to get carried away. My car was supposed to be a one month quickie paint job in white 10 years ago, but it wound up becoming a full on restoration. A restoration I could not afford to complete and that cost me the use of the car for a very long time ( it was in FAR better shape at the start of the paint job detailed here than it was when I first took it apart in 1999). Too many project cars wind up in the junkyard due to a paint and body hell they never return from. Put it together with the engine you want and enjoy driving it. Just be sure it has no water leaks anywhere as those are the death of many an old car.

yea i agree. with my car the first thing i did was almost buy wheels and new tires when i had a leaking brake line...luckily i chose to repair the brake lines and i think ive pretty much decided on the taking on the 403 before the paint
 
man its just like my car,lemme know if you ever want to get rid of it,my car would love a brother! Are you going to take the rest of the A.I.R. pump system out of it,you need these certain brass plugs that fit where the system is atop the exhaust manifold on the cylinder head

yea i know i need to get that done. i havent really noticed a leak so i havent been in a rush.
 
Nice cutty & buildup. Yea, I'm just like 85 cutlass Brougham and you, rather have the car and the mechanicals good & fine and worry about paint later. Had the same with my '66 Impala - everywhere I went people keep asking what / when I was going to paint it. Never did paint it, spent my money fixing the brakes, floor, and putting in the hopped-up motor. One of the last things I did were the wheels / tires and redoing the interior. Was going to do a frame off but ended up selling it. What took its place - the '86 Cutlass.

Oh, overall how do like your mufflers? I know you said you want it loud (if that's the case you'd probably love my Delta 40s :twisted: ) but was wondering about the interior resonance.
