Re: SBC 355 Build (Bad News!)

Hey Guys and Gals!

I Got A SBC 305 From A 1981 Camaro And It Runs Great! So El Camino Is Back On The Road And I Drive It Everyday! As Far As The SBC 355 Goes It Is Sitting On The Stand Until I Can Obtain A Full Time Job And Save Some Cash To Get It Fixed. I Will Be Running The 305 For At Least A Year Or More! Thanks For Everyones Help! I Will Be Taking The El Camino To The Syracuse Nationals On July 20, 2012! Anyone Also Attending?

Re: SBC 355 Build (El Camino Runs Again!!)

Man that sucks to hear about the engine. Especially all the work you put in. Hopefully it goes together and everything comes full circle so you can actually enjoy it.

P.S-I gotta ask, whats up with capitalizing the first letter of each word? Kinda makes it difficult to read

Re: SBC 355 Build (El Camino Runs Again!!)

Hello Everyone,

Little Update! My new wife and I were able to land awesome FT entry level jobs which is going to allow me the funds to rebuild the 355 this winter! I will be taking the heads to the shop in a few weeks for inspection and replacement of the 3 valves. I am going to buy a Elgin Industries Cam and Lifter Set; Specs: Lift: .487/.508,Duration @ .050": 234/244,Lobe Separation: 114 LC. I am going to rebuild the motor, but going to have a shop measure pushrods and lash correctly, then have shop break in motor and time it and everything. Going to do everything correctly this time. 355 should be a real monster this time around.

Thanks for all your support and help guys!

Re: SBC 355 Build (2nd Rebuild!!)

Hey guys and gals!

Update Time! I finally went to the machine shop last night and dropped off my 492 heads and after a good inspection, and a learning lesson from the Owner, he told me that he could replace all the valves and get the heads good as new for $150 as long as I buy valves. So he sized everything and I am going to buy a new set of valves and have the shop get them all set up. Seats and everything look new so heads don't need any machine work.

Ill be buying new parts after Christmas and hope to fire 355 up before cruising season 2013!

Re: SBC 355 Build (2nd Rebuild!!)

Sounds great! $150 - wow! Last time that I had a set of heads reworked with new seats, valves and springs it cost me close t a grand!

Re: SBC 355 Build (2nd Rebuild!!)

Hey Guys and Gals!

Little Update For Everyone!

Went to the shop this weekend and dropped off the 2.02/1.60 valves I bought and had the shop put new retainers on springs and install valves, total price was $162.00.

Hope to order new camshaft, roller rockers and then measure pushrods and order a good set of pushrods.

I will keep you all updated on the build!

-ElCam!

Re: SBC 355 Build (2nd Rebuild!!)

Hey guys and gals!

Update time! Ordered my New Elgin Cam .488/.508 LSA 106 cam and lifter set, Stainless steel roller rockers, and flat guideplates. I hope to start putting it all back together once the weather in CNY starts warming up. Should have it all together by end of summer 🙂

Thanks for all the help guys!

ElCam!
