I'm curious as to what you mean by "choking it with glasspacks".

Re: SBC 355 Build

Good job elcamman and good choice on mufflers.IMO nothing sounds better than a pair of glasspacks especially when you drop a gear and engine brake making them cackle.

http://www.popularhotrodding.com/engine ... ndex1.html

"A glass pack muffler can act significantly different. It does not appear as a pipe end but as a substantial increase in collector length. Result: a reduction of power even though there is no measurable backpressure involved."

its the same with every other article and thing I've read on glasspacks. They do have a distinct sound, though it looks like hes putting a lot into it just giving some info

my opinion aside, it is nice work and a good lookin engine

Re: SBC 355 Build

Thanks Guys! I Went With Glasspacks Because I Got Them As A Promotion When I Got My Headers. I Am Sure I Will Go For Some Turbo Mufflers After I Get It On The Road, This Is Just To Make It Road Ready Since I Need "Mufflers" For Inspection!

That's not exactly right. Even that article stated that in some case since it the engine see's it as added collector lenght it may not be optimized, but there is no way to tell without a dyno or et. It also assumes the muffler is attached at the collector and not farther down stream. I've certainly never lost any power, that was measureable without other "tools" with glasspacks.

Re: SBC 355 Build (UPDATED WITH PICTURES 6-1-11)

Got Some Updates For You All! After Trying To Put Pistons Into Thier Respectful Cylinders I Ran Into A Snag, There Was NO Side To Side Clearance On The Rods So Engine Went Back To Machine Shop Today. The Shop Allowed Me To Help Assemble Short Block In Thier Shop And They Did Not Charge Me A Penny To Clearance The Rods Or Assemble Short Block. They Also Gave Me A Connecting Rod Bearing For Free. Hope You All Enjoy The Pics And I Will Hopefully Have Motor Totally Assembled By Weekend To Early Next Week!

Piston Number 1, I Did This At My House Prior To Taking Block Back To Shop
