Thanks guys.

Started fitting bumpers today. Hood scoop has been riveted on and working on tacking it down tomorrow then fiberglassing to mold it in. Going to get pictures of it tomorrow evening.
Started fitting the rear FE3X fiberglass piece and will fit the front tomorrow night.

Got rid of the '80's looking fake scoop things on the side of the body kit in the rear:

Finally found an aluminum front bumper to match the aluminum rear. Should help offset all of the weight I added with the sound deadening and stereo. :)

Getting close.

Are you going to use the hood or is it a mold for a fiberglass hood? Car is looking good.

Fitting the front FE3X air dam. What a pain in the butt! This thing isn't even close and it looks like we're going to have to cut it in half like I did the rear because it's made too wide for the car. :( Not a great night working on the car and was really considering scrapping the whole body kit thing. Decided to sleep on it and see what I come up with.

That's really frustrating. I'd hate to see you scrap the body kit though! It really sets the mood of the whole car! I hope you can work it out.

I've seen the GM prototype molds in person, they're definatly prototype molds...
No body kit is plug and play, not even the Hurst Aero kits.
If you scrapped the kit what would you call the car?
It would be nice to see the side skirts put on too.
The '80's rear wrap inset you molded over is for the brake vents.

Re: 1987 Olds Pro-touring project build *LONG*

Oh, I knew going in that any fiberglass "kit" is never going to fit right out of the box. Guess I just figured it would have been a little closer than it is.

The way it sits now it doesn't even follow the front contour of the original steel bumper chrome and is only held back by the bumper cover. This causes a problem with the turn signals since they are supposed to be cut out and mounted to the steel part of the bumper.

It's about 2" too wide for the car so we're likely going to have to cut and section the thing to fit.

I'm almost thinking we're going to have to cut the kit into 3 different pieces.
If I get the front of the kit to fit flush up against the bumper then the sides stick into the wheel well by a good 2". So we may have to section the sides to pull the kit back to the wheel well arch. Then cut it down the center in the front to suck it in on the sides.

I've never looked at the FE3X concept up close or at least close enough to spot the brake vents. I didn't think these were cut out for anything functional.

Body mods are the hardest to pull off its hard to do better than the factory designers.99% of the body kits I see on cars look like sh*t .Good luck with the rest of your build
