Keeping the top is easier to be sure, but it is sort of a buzz kill when it comes to making one cool, especially in brown. If it is in good shape, you may be able to dye it white. Don't quote me on that, as I have never done it.

all metal is a filler i guess then, it sounds scary!!
i'm still undecided, do you have to add all metal to get it to look right?
that is the only thing that i'm not sure about, wouldn't any other filler work, or is this stuff the only thing to do it right with?

i guess i don't know exactly where this seam you are talking about is

Well, the seam is hidden under the top, and would be filled with lead at the factory on a car that came stock without the vinyl top. All Metal is a plastic filler made by US Chemical with a heavy aluminum content in it, and was specifically formulated as a lead substitute. Ordinary Bondo is a bad idea here, as it will act like a sponge and hold moisture against the roof, eventually rotting it out. You can sand it by hand if you like, but it will take ages by comparison to doing it with air tools. If you look at my Myspace pics of the Cutlass, you will see some of the seam. I have extensive documentation of how these cars go together on there, and can add more pics if you need to see anywhere else. The seam is basically even with the top of the quarter window, as that is where the roof and quarter panels are joined by welding.

I just removed my vynal top, it wasnt that bad at all.

I saw the pics and was surprised that your car was leaded from the factory. I also noticed that yours had the roof skin fully painted when new, which mine did not. I guess mine came from the ghetto factory while others did not.
