2.29 gear ratio

With a 0.50:1 T-56 overdrive, maybe. I'm not sure how much HP is required to push a billboard to 200MPH. I think some suspension and brake upgrades might also be relevant.

I have the 2.21 behind the Olds 260 and with the TH200 trans it is sufficient for a daily driver.

Did I mention that the Lingenfelter Trans Am hit 207 mph? I think the crew had to tape the tops of the door glass to the body because the airflow tried to suck them out of the car.
I looked up that Lingenfelter salt flat T/A on their site. 1,400hp 355 twin turbo and it went 298mph. Crazy.

I was (poorly) paraphrasing a magazine article from the late 80's. I do clearly recall the 2.14 gear ratio, though.

From the Lingenfelter site:

"1989:
In 1989, John moved on to help set another record, this time at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Lingenfelter built a 355 CID Chevy V8 engine for the SE Racecraft 1989 Firebird Trans Am. This twin-turbocharged, fuel- injected small block produced 1,400 hp and had six nitrous bottles for intercooler cooling only, not for induction. The car’s driver, Gary Eaker, tried to break the 300 mph barrier the Trans Am but after several attempts fell short of the goal. He did, however, still hit an amazing 298 mph, which set the record for full-body sedans at the time.

1996:
After the record run by the SE Racecraft Trans Am, John produced a Lingenfelter Pontiac Firebird in 1996 to run at the Bonneville Salt Flats. This car was to be featured in Car and Driver and at the time was driven by Csaba Csere, the editor of the publication and friend of John Lingenfelter. This car met a fateful end when it went out of control and became airborne at 220 mph, then did a back flip and a spun before finally skidding to a stop on its roof. Fortunately, Csaba was not seriously injured in this accident."

I wonder how much horsepower would be required to move a non-Aerocoupe G-body to 200MPH?

l just found an old article about Stan Davis and his purple t-type running a Duttweiler turbo 6 with 967 hp going 208mph at the 1998 Silver State Challenge. The bricks do fly!

Just a quick sorta off topic questions but what do you think Is the most aero dynamic gbody other then the aerocoups. My guess would be the euro cutlass or the le man's

i remember driving my parents 79 butless salon back in the day with a 260 eng and 2.29 rear gears. it would upshift to third gear around 70mph.
i also had 2.29 gears in my 79 calais, i eventually put in a 400 sbc (think torque, lots of torque), turbo 700r4 trans and those gears. drove out to california and back, averaged 21-22mpg. i then put 3.23 gears in it and ended up running 13.2 sec in the 1/4mile. god i miss that car.
