2.29 gear ratio

I had 2.29's in my '79 to start. I managed to grenade the carrier after upgrading the motor, just driving down the street. 30mph bang and I had no power moving anymore. Now I'm running a 2.43 that I pulled out of a bonneville. It been awhile since I've done some driving in it but last time I drove it on interstate I was getting about 19.5mpg at 80mph and 2800rpms.

I have 2.41 gears in my 10 bolt. And run a mild camed 350cuin TH 350 combo. It is very similar to many reply's on here.
somewhat gutless on take off but rather good cruisin. For the 7.5" 10 bolt you must change the carrier to
go any larger than 3.08 gears. I was thinking of upping to the 3.23 gears.
But now I'm going to opt for the 3.08. As a few I've talked to say its a good compromise.

I don't find the 3.08 a compromise, that's the gear ratio I was running in 7.5 rear and was lucky enough to find my 8.2 with the 3.08
