2.29 gear ratio

I am gonna ask the question that has been asked a million times but it still pertains to the thread, please humor me.

What would breath some much needed life into a bone stock 307? Gear suggestions and I would like to get rid of the peg leg to leave some marks on the county roads.

I have 2.41 gears in my 10 bolt. And run a mild camed 350cuin TH 350 combo. It is very similar to many reply's on here.
somewhat gutless on take off but rather good cruisin. For the 7.5" 10 bolt you must change the carrier to
go any larger than 3.08 gears. I was thinking of upping to the 3.23 gears.
But now I'm going to opt for the 3.08. As a few I've talked to say its a good compromise.

If I want to get both wheels spinning, I will have to change carrier anyway. Might as well shoot for 3.23s while I have it in pieces.
Does anyone have these gears with a 3 speed auto?

I do know that if your 307 is stock a posi rear might just bust something else
or won't get your tire spinning mojo working.
Maybe with real high gears like 4.10 or 3.73
but the car will be screaming at 80 mph.

I figure that with 2.41 gears a change to 3.08 is about 1/2 turn of the motor
faster to one turn of the wheels . to compare the same 2.41 gear change to
say 3.43 is an extra 1 full turn of the engine for every full turn of the wheels.
And I run 265-65-15's on the back. That was 195-70-14 stock.
So the tall wheels and tires also rob some of that gear ratio making
things worse.

Good points. I am actually running 2.14 right now, so the jump to 3.08 should make a world of difference. Wheels have been changed to 15s with 235/60 tires. Not to mention the money I will save! Thanks for the info.

You won't save much due to tire size - 235/60-15 is about the same diameter as the original stock tires. I used to cook my flip-flopped feet when I put 3.73s in the wagon (no carpet or insulation) but had not yet found an overdrive.

your eng rpm's will go from approx 2300 up to 2550 with that change at 70mph.

Rear end swap pics. I decided to do some painting during the swap. Much more to be done. The rear end is in, but I'm installing stainless brake hoses and big bore calipers, so no test drive just yet.
