I should also say that since it looks like you want to bump up your 1-2 shift that the gove is a good place to start.. Other can also chime in with their experiences..

I ground the governor to bring my shift points from 3000 to 42-4300 rpm. It took a lot of grinding to get there. Seems strange that your one-two is that much lower. I have the big Transgo shift kit and BO servo also in the trans. All trial and error, get a pan with a drain plug. Your stock 442 trans should shift around 4800.

Ols307&&403,

It's been a while! How do we know that his trans is original?

Foxtrot

P.S. If I remeber correctly , your not a big hockey fan but you must have seen CAN vs. US game? What an awesome game! That has to be the best hockey that I've ever seen. Congrats to the CAN team! The US team was also AWESOME!

okay, i;m blind! I read his sig and the trans is not original so anything is possible. The governor is still the correct path to bump up the 1-2 shift... 🙂

yeah the original is loooong gone ist just an oldsmobile transmission, it has a transgo shift kit and hardened parts and all that good stuff.... it was just rebuilt but started slipping from 2-3 randomly so i took it back to the guy who did it,(its not in the car anymore so makes the triming and guessing kinda hard) and while its there hes gonna do somehting with the governor he wanted me to find information on the governor if i could since hes been really and he doesnt do alot upgrades for 200r4s that often so its been awhile for him since most people go with the 700r4. ive heard of removing a spring on one side, grinding one side down, changing to plastic lighter screws and so forth i just need to figure out how much to grind off

Eric,

My recomendation is to just buy the GN gov and have your transmission guy install it. There is no need to flock around shaving weight off -- this method takes many trys to get it right...

As far as the 7004R argument -- I think that the gearing in the 2004R is better...

where can you find the governors forsale? does anyone have one?

I know that one of the GN govs shifts at ~4800 and the other shifts at ~5100. The other govs from the 442 && MCSS shift north of 4k...
